I'm John Compton, an attorney dedicated to providing exceptional legal representation to individuals in Greenwood, Greenville, and the surrounding areas. With years of experience as a solo-practitioner, I specialize in various areas of law, including Bankruptcy, Family Law, Probate Estates, Wills and Trusts, LLCs and Corporations, as well as Personal Injury & Wrongful Death cases. My mission is to serve as a trusted advocate for my clients, ensuring their rights and interests are protected.
Since my admission to practice law in South Carolina in 1990, I have handled a wide range of legal matters, allowing me to develop a solid foundation in diverse areas of law. From arguing appeals before the South Carolina Supreme Court to providing DUI defense, drafting wills, closing real estate transactions, and litigating civil cases, I have honed my skills to deliver comprehensive legal solutions tailored to my clients' needs.
In addition to my legal practice, I am actively engaged in community service and professional organizations. I am proud to be a member of the South Carolina Bankruptcy Law Association, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, and the National Association of Consumer Advocates. I have served on various boards and committees, including the S.C. Bar Consumer Law Section, and have had the privilege of speaking at Continuing Legal Education events on consumer and bankruptcy issues. I have also contributed legal articles and Op-Eds to esteemed publications such as the Greenville News, The State, and the Index Journal. My commitment to public service is reflected in my past involvement in Greenwood City Council, Greenwood County Council, and my role as Chairman of the Greenwood County Republican Party.
Beyond my legal practice, I am honored to serve as the Town Attorney for McCormick, South Carolina, and represent indigent clients in DSS Abuse, Neglect, and Termination of Parental Rights cases on behalf of the South Carolina Office of Indigent Defense. With admission to practice in all State & Federal Courts in South Carolina, as well as in the State Courts of Georgia and the Federal Court for the Middle District of Georgia, I am equipped with the necessary expertise to handle complex legal matters effectively. I am also admitted to practice before the Federal 4th and 11th Circuits Courts of Appeal and the United States Supreme Court.
When I'm not practicing law, I enjoy engaging in various outdoor activities, such as running, hunting, and tree farming. My community and faith hold great importance to me, and I actively participate in First Baptist Church in Greenwood and Christ Church in Greenville.
